Native Sovereignty Activities - Stay Curious, Utah!
Sovereignty, as it pertains to tribes living in the areas that are now the United States, means that each tribe has authority over itself and the territories which belong to that tribe. Tribal members are considered dual-citizens of both their Native Nation and the United States. Native sovereignty can be a complicated issue and continues to be decided in the legal courts of the United States today. Many of these legal battles have to do with the honoring and abiding of the treaties and agreements made between the United States and Native Nations.

Produced in collaboration with the five principal nations of the Great Basin: the Ute, Paiute, Northwestern Shoshone, Goshute, and Navajo tribes.
