City Nature Festival

Celebrate Urban Nature with NHMU at the third annual City Nature Festival! 

Join educators from the Natural History Museum of Utah, Tracy Aviary and Utah's Hogle Zoo to celebrate and explore urban nature! This free outdoor event will be fun for the whole family, featuring lots of hands-on activities and outdoor exploration. We'll also have materials available to bioblitz (photograph & upload images to iNaturalist) for the City Nature Challenge! We're excited to celebrate with you!

Event Schedule

• 9:00 - 10:00 AM: Biking and Birding (Free, no registration required)
• 9:00 - 10:00 AM: Bird Walks, Spanish and English Language (Free, no registration required)
• 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: City Nature Festival Open House, includes tabling from event partners: Natural History Museum of Utah, Tracy Aviary, Utah's Hogle Zoo, USFWS Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement, (Free, no registration required)

• 10:00 AM - Presentation: iNaturalist 101 (Natural History Museum of Utah)
• 10:30 AM - iNaturalist Walk
• 11:00 AM - Presentation: Local Birding (Tracy Aviary)
• 11:30 AM - Birding Walk
• 12:00 PM - Presentation: Kid's Story Time (Salt Lake County Library) 
• 12:30 PM - Canoe with Jordan River Commission
• 1:00 PM - Presentation: Vertebrates (Utah's Hogle Zoo)
• 1:30 PM - Vertebrate walk (Utah's Hogle Zoo)

Event Details:

• On-site parking is free for this event.
• This is event is primarily outdoors. Come prepared to explore urban trails at the newly expanded Pia Okwai site!
• Fresh water and bathrooms are available on-site.
