Sixth–Eighth Grade Sessions

NHMU sixth through eighth grade camp sessions are for students who will enter 6th, 7th or 8th grades in the fall of 2017. For Partner Camp listings, where needed, transportation between sites is provided. Please note that not all school districts begin summer break at the same time—check your school schedule before registering. Price and duration of camps vary. See individual listings.

The Nature of Gaming

Partner Camp with Spy Hop

Watch out! We’re unleashing a new crop of game-creation prodigies! Students will begin their day at Spy Hop learning the ins and outs of video game construction, from conception to final product. Each afternoon while at the Museum, students will explore the areas surrounding the Museum, investigating the plants, animals and geology of the area.  Drop camper off at Spy Hop by 8:30am and pick them up at NHMU at 4:30pm. Transportation between sites is provided.

Hammers, Textiles and Patterns: Girls Camp

Partner Camp with Clever Octopus

Are you ready to get creative with recycled items? We’ll create string from plastic bottles, fuse plastic bags to make pencil pouches, and build looms to weave fabric and plastic. Color chemistry is also on the agenda! Students will explore patterns and color using batik and henna. Come prepared to be outside each day under shade tents—We promise, we'll keep cool with plenty of water and squirt guns. Drop off and pick up take place at NHMU. This is an outdoor camp that will take place around the Museum site.

Geometry and Art

Partner Camp with Clever Octopus

Squares, circles and triangles - geometric shapes are the building blocks for almost everything. Join us as we explore geometry's role in traditional and modern art. We’ll build string art, design papercut tessellations inspired by MC Escher, and draw our surroundings like Piet Mondrian. Together, we will create a 3D sculpture inspired by Wasily Kandinsky, and we’ll use our repeating pattern designs to create fancy fabrics. Come prepared to be outside each day under shade tents—We promise, we'll keep cool with plenty of water and squirt guns. Drop off and pick up take place at NHMU. This is an outdoor camp that will take place around the Museum site.

Adventure Camp 

Partner Camp with Camp Kostopulos

It’s the best of both worlds! While at the Museum, we’ll unleash your inner geek as we explore the Bonneville Shoreline Trail while using GPS units, investigate macro- and micro-invertebrates and pH testing along with forensic science. Afternoons will focus on your wild side as you spend time at Camp K participating in outdoor camp activities like hiking, rock climbing, swimming, spending time with the horses, field games, climbing ropes courses, and fishing. We are offering two sessions of this camp. Boys Only session starts at NHMU at 8:30am and ends at Camp K at 4:30pm. Girls Only session starts at Camp K at 8:30am and ends at NHMU at 4:30pm. Transportation between sites for each session is provided.
