Second and Third Grade Summer Camp Sessions
Wait List: We do not offer a wait list due to the significant staff time it takes to coordinate. Instead, we will post any open slots as they become available. These will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Rock & Roll, Museum-Style
Calling all rockhounds...have we got a great camp for you! Our week will be loaded with geologic investigations from volcanoes and earthquakes to the rock cycle, erosion, and tectonics. We’ll also spend some time diving into fossils and ancient ecosystems. We may even get the inside scoop on new dinosaur discoveries with tours of our Paleo Lab and collections areas.
This camp takes place entirely at NHMU, Monday-Thursday. No camp on Friday.

Things with Wings
Partner Camp with Tracy Aviary
Join us for a week of aeronautical study as we investigate everything that flies, soars, glides, orbits, or floats in the sky from planes, kites and rockets to birds, mammals and insects! Monday and Tuesday campers will be at the Museum, exploring the forces of flight with activities involving kites, planes, rockets, and more! Wednesday and Thursday will be spent Tracy Aviary exploring the world of birds from bone density, beaks, and feet to flight patterns and habitats.
Drop off and pick up on Monday and Tuesday take place at NHMU. Wednesday and Thursday will be at Tracy Aviary. No camp on Friday.

Behind the Scenes
Partner Camp with Red Butte Garden
Join us to find out what it takes to run a world class Museum and Arboretum. Monday and Tuesday will be spent at NHMU. As Utah’s state natural history museum, NHMU introduces the amazing variety of Utah’s geology, flora, and fauna—both ancient and modern. With over 5,000 artifacts on display, and many more behind the scenes, campers will experience a wide variety of hands-on exploration from touring collections and labs, to learning from curators and staff. Campers will also have an opportunity to curate their own display of the “Museum of Me.” Wednesday and Thursday will be spent at Red Butte Garden, one of the largest botanical gardens in the Intermountain West and Utah’s state arboretum. Campers will visit and work with Garden experts, using the tools of the trade that help to keep the Garden thriving. Campers will also get a chance to visit staff-only spaces like the greenhouses and amphitheater.
Drop off and pick up on Monday and Tuesday take place at NHMU. Wednesday and Thursday will be at Red Butte Garden. No camp on Friday.

Preserve and Protect
Partner Camp with Camp Kostopolus
Join us for a week of adventures! Monday and Tuesday will be spent at the Museum, learning about Citizen Science and wildlife conservation. We’ll utilize iNaturalist, an app that serves a global community for nature observation and identification and get up close and personal with several of our education animals while also learning about problems and solutions to animal endangerment and protection. Plus, get an exclusive tour of our Wildlife Rescue exhibit! Wednesday and Thursday at Camp K participants will explore the Utah foothills in Emigration Canyon as they go on ecological expeditions to learn about interconnected network of the ecosystem including water, soil, temperature, sunlight, pollution, wind, plants, insects, and animals. Students will also enjoy science experiments, create nature-inspired art, and more.
Drop off and pick up on Monday and Tuesday take place at NHMU. Wednesday and Thursday will be at Camp K. No camp on Friday.

STEAM Explorations
Join us for a week of amazing hands-on science that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Campers will explore physics and chemistry, create projects like LED light sabers and paper circuits, erupt geysers and volcanoes, build bridges, and connect art with science—all while working with Museum specimens and exploring collection areas.
This camp takes place entirely at NHMU, Monday-Thursday. No camp on Friday.

Planetary Detectives
Partner Camp with Clark Planetarium
Journey through the galaxy and explore the mysteries of our solar system. On Monday and Tuesday, while at the Clark Planetarium, campers will learn about the planets, stars and constellations while enjoying other spaced-out projects and activities. On Wednesday and Thursday at NHMU, campers will investigate the powerful processes that sculpt our Earth. We’ll explore the natural phenomena of weathering and erosion, atmospheric and ocean currents, and natural disasters.
Drop off and pick up on Monday and Tuesday take place at NHMU. Wednesday and Thursday will be at Clark Planetarium. No camp on Friday.
