Important Information for Summer Camp

Healthy & Ready for Camp

We need your help in keeping our camp community healthy. Please check your child’s health every day prior to bringing them to camp. Campers (and staff) who have any of the following symptoms should NOT come to camp:

  • A fever of 100.4 or above
  • Cough unrelated to asthma/allergies
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Loss of taste and/or smell
  • Sore throat
  • New runny nose or congestion
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

For the health and well-being of everyone, symptomatic children and staff MUST stay home.

Check-in & Check-out for Camps at the Museum

Both drop-off & pick-up will take place in the Museum’s turnaround, unless noted (for instance, if the session is a partner camp*).

  • Drop-off for 2nd – 8th grade sessions run from 8:15am – 8:30am. Pick-up is at 4:30 pm.
  • Drop-off for 1st grade sessions will run from 8:45-9:00am. Pick-up is at 4:00.
  • Drop-off for AM Kinder sessions will run from 8:45 – 9:00am. Pick-up is at Noon.
  • Drop-off for PM Kinder sessions will run from 12:45 – 1:00pm. Pick up is at 4:00pm.
    • If your child can’t buckle themselves into their car seat/booster, we ask that you safely pull forward from the pick-up line if you need to personally seatbelt them in. This is so that our pick- up line can move as swiftly as possible.

Due to staffing and safety concerns, campers are not allowed to be dropped off before their grade level’s published arrival time. Late arrivals should call 801-585-3948 and be checked in separately.

*Information for partner organization policies will be sent to parents prior to each camp session.

Snack and Lunch Times

NHMU and our partners will not provide snacks or lunch but do provide time to eat food brought from home.

  • Snack: Each camp session will go outside for a morning and/or an afternoon snack. Send your child with one or two substantial snacks (active kids are hungry kids!) and a reusable water bottle.
  • Lunch: Each camp session (except half day sessions) will have their lunch outside between noon and 12:45pm. Send your child with a healthy lunch and a reusable water bottle.
    • Water spots are located throughout the building and campers will be encouraged to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Backpacks and Personal Belongings

Campers should only bring necessary items. Electronic items and games/toys are not allowed. We are not responsible for lost or broken property. We strongly recommend putting your child’s name on all items.

  • Backpacks are allowed but should only contain necessary items.
  • Jackets/sweaters—it’s sometimes cool in the mornings and warmer in the afternoons, so layering is best.
  • Reusable/refillable water bottles are strongly recommended—bottles should be washed each night.
  • Lunch box/bag—be sure your child’s snack/lunch does not require refrigeration or heating.
  • Any left-over personal belongings will be taken to the Museum’s lost-and-found each afternoon after camp.

Contact the Museum’s front desk at 801-581-6927 if you are missing an item.

A Note About Smart Watches

We get it, your child wants to call you. Maybe they are having a rough day or homesick or are tired and just want to come home. But do us a favor, please, alert Camp Staff if/when this happens and before you come to pick them up. Sometimes it’s a simple thing that we can help with. We provide lots of great activities and experiences and we want to know if your child isn’t having fun or otherwise wants to go home. Please, contact us before you just show up to pick up a child who wants to come home.

Outdoors, General

  • Campers and staff will go outside, rain or shine. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the forecasted weather.
  • We are not able to put sunscreen onto your kids. Please be sure they know how to do this and bring their own sunscreen.

After Camp

Students must be picked up at the designated time each afternoon. Families who wish to visit the Museum after camp hours can purchase daily admission tickets. Members get free admission!

Restrooms

NHMU is a public building. As such, we cannot close or disallow our guests from using our restrooms. We do not have private restrooms for campers. We will work closely with our custodial staff to ensure spaces are kept clean on a regularly scheduled basis. In addition:

  • Urgent restroom needs will always be accommodated.
  • Proper restroom behavior will be discussed with campers, when needed.

Handwashing

Camp staff will have regular routines and schedules to ensure frequent handwashing is done. Sinks with hand soap dispensers and paper towels are available in each lab space. Hand sanitizer stations are providing throughout the Museum.

Transfers

If you need to transfer your child out of one camp session and into a different camp session, you may do so until two weeks before the original camp date/time IF there is a spot in the desired camp. Please register your child for the desired camp and then email the Camp Director. Let us know what camp you need to withdraw your child from. A refund, less a $20 fee, will be credited to your credit card for the original camp.

Cancellation

  • If you need to cancel your child’s camp registration, email the Camp Director as soon as possible. If we can fill your spot, you will receive a full refund, less a $20 fee. If we are not able to fill your spot at least 2 weeks prior to the session start date, we will refund 60% of your registration fee.
  • If a program does not reach its minimum enrollment, you will be notified at least two weeks before the starting date and your tuition will be fully refunded. Allow up to two weeks for refund.

COVID-19 Related Refund Policy
