Bug World LEGO® Contest
LEGO® Contest Winners
We are excited to announce the winners of our Bug World-inspired LEGO® Contest!
The winning build in NHMU's Bug World-inspired LEGO® Contest Advanced Category is a Mormon cricket, Anabrus simplex, built by Keegan Petersen, 27, of West Valley.
For the Advanced Category, the winner is Keegan Petersen, 27, of West Valley, whose Mormon cricket, Anabrus simplex, wowed the judges with its accurate dimensions and life-like, smooth exoskeleton.
"I decided to build a Mormon cricket given its cultural relevancy to the state of Utah. The build took about 16 hours in total, with the main challenge coming from the limited pool of bricks I have in my collection."
The winning build in NHMU's Bug World-inspired LEGO® Contest Novice Category is a ruby-tailed wasp, Chrysis ignita, built by Soren Potuck, 9, of Heber.
In the Novice Category, the winner is Soren Potuck, 9, of Heber, whose dazzling ruby-tailed wasp, Chrysis ignita, scored highest among the judges, especially in the criteria of creativity.
"I love the colors and abilities of the ruby-tailed wasp. It took about 10 hours to build. It uses 373 Lego pieces. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to keep the body together."
Congratulations to our two winners, who will be attending BugFest this weekend where their winning creations will be on display in the Canyon.
Thanks again to our contest partners, BrickSlopes, Utah LEGO® Users Group, and the County Library for supporting this content, providing prizes, and helping Utahns participate with free LEGO® classes.

- Winners from the Advanced category will be picked based on the accuracy of their insect builds
- Winners from the Novice category will be picked based on the creativity of their build
- Adults cannot help children with their builds in either category. We want to see their true creativity come to light!

- Parent/guardian information is required for any contestant under the age of 18, no matter which category they are entering.
