DinoFest 2020 Speaker: Dr. Antoine Bercovici
Title of Lecture: The collapse of a green world
Lecture Description: Plants have dominated the planet for 470 million years, enabling animal life on land by providing food and habitat. Dr. Bercovici will explore how forests were affected by the Cretaceous–Paleogene mass extinction event and see that the full story goes well beyond just the dinosaurs.
Bio: Antoine Bercovici is a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Nottingham, research associate at the National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian), and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. He is a palynologist (scientist who studies pollen and spores) and is interested in how plant communities have been affected and have recovered from mass extinction events.
