DinoFest 2022 Speaker: Dr. Carole Gee

Carole Gee.

Title of Lecture: Color my world: ancient plants in living color

Lecture Description: In today’s world, plants are boldly colorful. However, in the paleontological past before the advent of the flowering plants, plant coloration was more subtle. Instead, the flora sported multiple hues of resplendent greens and calming browns with pops of other colors. Dr. Gee will discuss how the paleobotanical record holds tantalizing hints on the color of plants before, during, and after the Age of the Dinosaurs.

Bio: Carole is a paleobotanist and associate professor of paleontology at the University of Bonn in Germany. Her current research focuses on Jurassic plants such as fossil cones, wood, and leaves from the dinosaur-rich Morrison Formation. Most recently, Carole has embarked on a search for color pigments in fossil leaves.
