Throughout history there have been multiple major extinction events. An extinction event is when there is a change and many plants or animal species die out entirely. There are two major extinction events that affected animals and plants here in Utah – the extinction of the dinosaurs 66 million years ago and the extinction of large land mammals around 12,000 years ago.
