NHMU Internship: Field Trip

Estimated Duration of Internship: 1 Semester

Number of hours the intern will work per week over a 16 week semester: 9 hours (3 academic credit hours)

Intern Position Description: The Field Trip Education Intern will facilitate interactive, in-gallery programming for field trip visitors and work closely with School Programs staff to evaluate, expand, develop, and implement field trip programming.

Learning Outcomes or Goals: 

  • Work collaboratively with Museum staff and volunteers to expand, develop, and implement new field trip programming. 
  • Strengthen oral and written communication skills.
  • Build self-confidence with activity development and facilitation.
  • Understand the role of informal education in Utah’s K-12 systems and the connection to Utah SEEd standards.
  • Learn to set goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

Appropriate majors: We are open to really any area of study as long as the intern can explain how this would help them in achieving their future goals.

Preference given to applicants who are:

  • Undergraduate student or recent graduate (2023 or later) 
  • Excited about science, technology, engineering, math, and education
  • Comfortable facilitating large groups in open-ended, hands-on problem-solving activities
  • Enjoy interacting with children and adults in a high-activity, high-energy, and noisy environment
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt quickly in changing circumstances; flexible working style
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Good oral and written communication skills
