The Natural History Museum of Utah Presents Third Annual Indian Art Market
The Natural History Museum of Utah is pleased to announce its third annual Indian Art Market on Saturday and Sunday, October 10-11, 2015. This year’s juried event features 21 contemporary artists representing 12 native tribes, who will be showcasing and selling their unique works of art, including paintings, baskets, carvings, jewelry, pottery and exciting mixed media pieces.
Artists must apply to be part of this special event and are asked to submit three original works to be judged by a panel of experts, with backgrounds in native history, art, anthropology and more. Awards are presented for Best of Show, 2nd, and 3rd place. About 14 artists are returning to the show this year with several wonderful new pieces.
“We are always captivated by the beautiful craftsmanship exhibited through the work of these artists,” says Suzanne Ruhlman, creator and organizer of the Indian Art Market and the Museum’s Store Manager. “We hope the market will provide people with a well-rounded experience, including the opportunity to see beautiful visual arts, meet and talk to individual artists, maybe buy a few pieces and listen to some great music. With so many beautiful things and at all different price ranges, there is bound to be something for everyone.”
Visitors and Native American art lovers can browse the market in the Museum’s stunning Canyon setting, which is free and open to the public from 10am to 5pm. Entrance to the Museum galleries and exhibits is separate. Art Market visitors will also be treated to the sounds of native drummers and flutes.
