Rare Opportunity to go Behind the Scenes

One of the best events of the year takes place this Saturday and Sunday, November 14-15, 2015 at the Natural History Museum of Utah. It’s the annual Behind the Scenes weekend, when visitors are invited into the Museum’s massive collections to see fascinating artifacts, specimens and objects not currently available for public view.

Beginning at 10am, interested Museum-goers can sneak-a-peak into collection rooms and laboratories usually off limits to visitors. Since more than two-thirds of the Museum’s 163,000 square feet contains storage and research facilities, it’s a rare opportunity for visitors to see what goes on there and learn more about how curators store and care for millions of ancient and unique objects.

Scientists will be on hand to answer questions and talk to visitors about fossils, including the the recently announced pig-snouted turtle, the latest dinosaur discoveries, stunning rock and mineral treasures, native plants and animals, exotic butterflies and anthropological wonders.

Collection areas close at 4:30pm.
