Natural History Museum of Utah Hosts 2024 Youth Climate Summit
SALT LAKE CITY, April 1, 2024 - The Natural History Museum of Utah's Critical Action Lab Team is proud to announce the upcoming 2024 Youth Climate Summit, taking place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. With a focus on education and action, the summit will offer a range of programming designed to inspire and equip attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to address climate change.
“The Youth Climate Summit aims to empower young individuals dedicated to positively impacting the environment,” said Madlyn Larson, NHMU associate director of education initiatives. “This exciting event will provide a platform for passionate teens to engage in activities and workshops centered around environmental issues.”
One of the highlights of the event will be the keynote address by Muskan Walia, a fourth-year student at the University of Utah. Muskan, who is studying math and philosophy, has been at the forefront of environmental advocacy in her community. In 2020, she co-founded a campaign with Utah Youth Environmental Solutions (UYES) and Sierra Club Utah, successfully urging her local school district to commit to a 100% clean electricity transition by 2030.
The Youth Climate Summit will feature a diverse range of workshops and activities, providing attendees with opportunities to learn from experts in the field and engage in hands-on experiences. From interactive discussions on sustainable practices to practical workshops on renewable energy, participants will gain valuable insights and skills to address climate challenges.
The Critical Action Lab (CAL) is a paid internship program for teens passionate about climate action. CAL Fellows apply critical thinking skills as they work together to plan activities designed to engage their peers in spreading awareness about climate change and learning how to take action in their communities.
The 2024 Youth Climate Summit is open to all teens who are passionate about the environment and eager to make a difference. Interested individuals can register for the event on the Natural History Museum of Utah's website.
