Welcome to NHMU/Past Worlds

The Natural History Museum of Utah's exhibitions are rich in incredible artifacts offering countless opportunities to study our state's natural history. From ancient past worlds to present day inhabitants, Museum guests come away with a greater understanding of the natural wonder and the cultural heritage of this amazing place. 

Now, we invite you to explore NHMU's exhibitions from the comfort of your own home in a series of engaging videos. These are not just simple tours of the Museum's spaces, but lessons in natural history led by NHMU's expert scientists and educators.

In Episode One, NHMU's executive driector, Dr. Jason Cryan, invites you to the Rio Tinto Center in the foothills of Salt Lake City and introduces the Museum's breathtaking architecture. We then join expert paleontologists—including our chief curator, Dr. Randall Irmis— and jump back billions of years to explore Utah's ancient life, the towering dinosaurs that once roamed these landscapes.  

The Natural History Museum of Utah, a part of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Our mission is to illuminate the natural world and the place of humans within it. In addition to housing outstanding exhibits for the public, NHMU is a research museum. Learn more.
