Fossil Identification

There's nothing quite like the excitement of discovering a fossil, gemstone, or piece of petrified wood! It's a feeling of wonder that makes you feel connected to the myriad of prehistoric life that once roamed Utah's landscape.
If you found a fossil, NHMU paleontologists want to help you identify it. Simply submit your name, email address, and a photo of the specimen (next to an object for scale), and one of our paleontologists will respond with an identification.
While you're waiting for your personal response from our paleontology team, learn about the ceratopsids (horned dinosaurs), hadrosaurs (duck-billed dinosaurs), and tyrannosaurids, you know and love, along with Ice Age megafauna, extinct turtles, and other fossil treasures.
