Museum On the Move: On-Demand Fossils

Thank you for joining us for the Museum on the Move Fossils On-Demand Class! On this page, we will help you get access to our class and the fossils that your students will explore. We are utilizing 3D models of fossils from the Natural History Museum of Utah's collections.

Whose Fossil Is This? addresses SEEd Standard 4.1.3: Analyze and interpret data from fossils to provide evidence of the stability and change in organisms and environments from long ago. Emphasize using the structures of fossils to make inferences about ancient organisms.

Click the button below to access the on-demand lesson. You will be asked to answer a few questions for our reporting, and the Nearpod link will be at the end of the survey. Once you've added the class to your Nearpod, you can share the link with your students.

The class utilizes a 3D model of a juvenile mammoth, cast from a fossil at NHMU.  Certain features of the cast are not normally present on actual fossil specimens such as the metal connecting pieces.  Regardless, the cast is a highly accurate replica of the original fossil.

Disclaimer: In order for you to see your students' responses, we have provided access to the editable lesson files. However, we would prefer that they stay unaltered to preserve the content that was prepared by NHMU educators and that carries the Museum name. We are not responsible and do not stand by any changes.
