Disaster Stories – Experts to Share Their Experiences

In conjunction with the American Red Cross, the Natural History Museum of Utah at the Rio Tinto Center is hosting “Disaster Stories” on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 12-4 p.m. This special afternoon will bring together key personnel and programs implemented during emergencies in Utah as well as around the country. The public also can learn about the science behind major disasters that have shaped history in the Museum’s exhibit “Nature Unleashed”.

Red Cross personnel will share details about their harrowing experiences assisting onsite this summer at wildfires and floods throughout Utah and California as well as how they were called to action to support communities devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.

In addition, there will be a mix of demonstrations including:

• Mobile Feeding Unit Vehicle – See how the Red Cross gets food and supplies into disaster areas.
• Emergency Shelters – A mock shelter will be set up and what you need to know should an emergency strike.
• CPR – Demonstrations will be given on this critical life saving skill.
• First Aid Kits – Does your home have one? Make your own and learn basic First Aid.
