1st Grade Camps

NHMU offers exciting camps for children entering the first grade in the fall. Unless otherwise noted, sessions will run Monday-Thursday. Any exceptions are identified by an asterisk (*) on session listings. Each day-long camp session includes time for a morning and afternoon snack break and a mid-day lunch break.

Important Details:

  • Food and Drink: Two substantial snacks, a non-refrigerated lunch, and a water bottle are to be brought from home each day.
  • Session Registration: Camps with the same title are identical; register for only one session of each camp.
  • Drop-Off and Pick-Up: Held at NHMU unless otherwise specified for partner camp sessions.
  • School Schedule: Summer break dates vary by school district, so please check your school’s calendar before registering.
  • Registration Limit: Due to Utah childcare licensing exemptions for out-of-school programs, each camper may attend a maximum of five weeks of camp per summer.

Space Cadets

3…2…1…Blast Off! Get ready for an out-of-this-world adventure with this incredible camp that takes kids on an exciting journey into space! Campers will put their scientific skills to the test as they investigate the wonders of the solar system, design and launch their very own rockets, and create detailed models of planets. They'll explore stars, constellations, and the mysteries of the universe, all while diving into hands-on, spaced-out projects and activities. With every experiment and discovery, young astronauts will fuel their curiosity and imagination, making this an unforgettable cosmic experience!

Jr Naturalist

Partner Camp with Red Butte Garden

Explore the natural world with the Natural History Museum and Red Butte Garden! Spend two days at NHMU, exploring the amazing world of insects, snails, earthworms, and spiders! We’ll study their amazing variety and importance while learning about their life cycles, habitats, and creating critter-inspired art. The other two days will be spent at Red Butte Garden, investigating the Garden from the perspective of birds, raccoons, trees, and more.

Dino & Art Adventure 

Get ready for a roaring, creative adventure! We’ll dive into the world of dinosaurs, explore colorful science, and get our hands messy with art. Throughout the week campers will dissect flowers and create petal paintings, go on a color scavenger hunt, and make wild bubble and soil art. They’ll also investigate dinosaurs of the Mesozoic era, learn about fierce predators and gentle giants, get a behind-the-scenes look at fossils in the Paleontology Lab, explore rocks, minerals, and the processes that make up the Earth. Each day will be action-packed with fun, hands-on activities that blend creativity with discovery.

Explore Your World

Partner Camp with Camp Kostopulos

Join us for an action-packed week at two amazing locations! Two days will be spent at NHMU where campers will explore the Museum using scientific tools and methods while investigating things like states of matter, chromatography, magnets, and more. The other two days will be spent at Camp K exploring the Utah foothills of Emigration Canyon through hands-on science, outdoor adventures, and nature discovery. They’ll learn about local plants and wildlife, explore ways to help protect the environment, and enjoy plenty of classic camp fun along the way—including nature-inspired art, hiking, fishing, rock wall climbing, making music on our new outdoor instruments, and cooling off at our new splash pad with interactive water features.

LEGO® Bricks, Gears & Engineers

Get ready for four epic days of building, racing, and creating! Dive into the world of LEGO engineering as we design simple machines, race in a push car derby, build jaw-dropping roller coasters, and take on engineering challenges with our clever creations. Please note that all LEGO® projects will be disassembled at the end of the session and LEGO® bricks will not be taken home.

Forces & Fun

Discover the wonders of the physical world in this hands-on, interactive camp! Explore how sound creates vibrations and vibrations make sound. Investigate how objects can only be seen when light illuminates them—and some even make their own light! From pushing and pulling to rolling and floating, dive into the different states of matter—solid, liquid, and gas—and see how they interact. Join us for a dynamic exploration of the materials around us and how we engage with the world. This camp is sure to spark curiosity and ignite a passion for discovery!
